ESL Student Assessment

ESL students are basically those students who opt for English as their second language. ESL student assessments are done to gain reports regarding the performances of ESL students related to the subject of English. These reports are basically collected for future references and to help the candidates gain knowledge about the various shortcomings they have.

Sample ESL student assessment

Tests undertaken by the candidate:

  • Fluency at pronouncing words and numbers: This test is conducted by asking the student to read a paragraph from an entry level ESL book. The clarity and pronunciation of the candidate is taken into regard and results are delivered. Score 17 on 20 in this round.
  • Writing and vocabulary test: This is a test in which the student is asked to write down a paragraph in English. The paragraph can be of his choice or pre-decided. The candidate showed good vocabulary skills and was awarded 16 out of 20 in this test. However, it must be marked that the candidate does not possess in depth knowledge of the subject and must therefore take immense care to increase the number of his vocabulary.
  • K-W-L charts: The biggest tool of assessment of ESL students is the K-W-L chart. Being a modern assessment tool in feature, this test revolves around the knowledge of the student about what he knows, what he learned, and what he wants to know. The result is 17 on 20 for this test.
